We’re excited to announce the release of UForm Kit 2.0, bringing our lightweight and flexible form solution to Umbraco 17 and .NET 10.
With this release, UForm Kit is ready for the latest generation of Umbraco, while existing websites running Umbraco 10–13 can continue using the proven 1.x version.
UForm Kit meets Umbraco 17
UForm Kit was created to provide a simple way to build and manage contact forms in Umbraco.
Instead of relying on a separate form platform, UForm Kit lets developers create forms directly within an Umbraco project, while providing editors with a straightforward way to manage the forms and their content.
Over the years, UForm Kit has been used for everything from simple contact forms to more customized enquiry and submission scenarios.
With version 2.0, we’re bringing that same approach to Umbraco 17.
Built for the latest .NET platform
Umbraco 17 represents an important step forward for Umbraco projects, running on .NET 10.
UForm Kit 2.0 has been updated to work natively with this new platform, giving developers a straightforward way to include UForm Kit when building new Umbraco 17 websites.
The package is available through NuGet and can be added to an Umbraco 17 project in the usual way.
The same UForm Kit philosophy
Although the underlying platform has changed, the philosophy behind UForm Kit hasn’t.
UForm Kit focuses on keeping forms simple.
You can create and manage multiple forms, customize form fields and validation, and control the content of emails generated from submissions. Forms can be integrated into your website without introducing a large external form framework or service.
The result is a form solution that stays close to your Umbraco project and gives developers the flexibility they need without adding unnecessary complexity.
A better fit for modern Umbraco
Umbraco’s move beyond the older macro-based architecture also means that UForm Kit 2.0 follows the modern Umbraco approach to rendering components.
Forms are now rendered through the UForm ViewComponent, while form references can use the form’s GUID/key in addition to the traditional integer ID.
This fits better with the way modern Umbraco exposes content and gives developers a more natural way to work with forms in Umbraco 17.
What about existing UForm Kit installations?
UForm Kit 2.0 is specifically designed for Umbraco 17.
If your website is running Umbraco 10, 11, 12 or 13, you should continue using the UForm Kit 1.x releases.
This allows existing websites to remain on their current Umbraco version while new Umbraco 17 projects can take advantage of the new 2.x release.
If you are upgrading an existing website from an older Umbraco version to Umbraco 17, there is one important change to take into account: Umbraco removed macros in version 14, so the old insertUForm macro is no longer available. Forms should instead be rendered using the UForm ViewComponent.
Ready for Umbraco 17
UForm Kit 2.0 marks the next stage of the package’s development and brings it into the current Umbraco ecosystem.
If you’re starting a new Umbraco 17 project and need a straightforward, developer-friendly solution for contact and enquiry forms, UForm Kit 2.0 is ready to use.
